Slumdog Millionaire was a box office smash in late 2008 and early 2009.

The story follows a young Indian boy, Jamal, who goes from rags to riches as miraculously pulls off a win on the Indian version of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’.

More important to the storyline, however, is his unrelenting love for a girl he spent his disturbing childhood with.

The two become separated by forces beyond them, and it is only on the verge of adulthood that the two reunite.

A host of support characters weave in and out of the storyline, most notably Jamal’s brother who sins against Jamal but works hard to redeem himself later in the plot.

The film works through a present narrative and flashbacks to moments of Jamal’s past. In the present sequence, he is under interrogation by the chief of police.

The police don’t believe Jamal could be having success on the TV show unless he is cheating, but as the storyline reveals his answers to the questions are a result of being in the right place at the right time (plus a little bit of luck).

The Slumdog Millionaire bluray set will be available from March 31 2009, and will include plenty of extras not previously available.
